Perikles (reconstruction)

Name: Perikles (reconstruction)
Material: Digital
Format: Statue
Location: Acropolis, Athens, to the east of the Propylaia, as per Gorham Phillips Stevens, The Periclean Entrance Court of the Acropolis of Athens, Hesperia 5.4 (1936) 443-520 at p. 514, figure 63.
Note: The statue, which was probably made by Kresilas and cast in bronze, does not survive. We do have evidence of the head in four Roman copies. Our restoration uses our model of the cast of the Vatican example (click here). No evidence for the rest of the body survives; we follow the advice of our consultant Prof. Samuel Holzman and, exempli gratia, set the head atop the torso of the "Marcellus" statue.
