Funerary Boat
This funerary boat was made to fulfill a vital pilgrimage in the Afterlife; the need to visit Abydos, the holy place in Egypt where the god Osiris was believed to have been entombed and raised from the dead. If, however, the tomb owner was not going to be physically buried at Abydos, but rather near their own home, they would have a boat like this hidden in a secret cache in their tomb. The Egyptians believed that placing boats like this in their tombs would have meant they automatically went to Abydos for the trip into the Afterlife. This assured an eternal life.Catalog Number RC-480
