The cast is a reconstruction by G. Becatti and L. Meratali of seated Aphrodite attributed to Phidias. The reconstruction is based on a cast of the torso in the Hall of the Emperors of the Capitoline Museums, Rome and a cast of the head of the so-called Sappho in the National Archaeological Museum, Naples. Note on the restoration: The cast has been further restored digitally as Tyrus to reflect a report of Pirro Ligorio about a statue he saw in the South Theater of Hadrian's Villa. Variant 2 reflects Tyrus' role in the discovery of Tyrian purple.
