Aphrodite of Kalamis (restoration)

Name: Aphrodite of Kalamis (restoration)
Material: Digital
Format: Statue
Museum: Based on the reconstruction in the Museo dell’Arte Classica, Sapienza University, Rome (inv. 205)
Location: The lost original by Kalamis was erected on the Acropolis, Athens but exactly where is uncertain. Gorham Phillips Stevens, The Periclean Entrance Court of the Acropolis of Athens, Hesperia 5.4 (1936) 443-520 at pp. 455 with figure 3 (7) placed it inside the Propylaia. Our studies of its appearance here raised doubts that this could be correct since its visability would have been compromised by a pier to the west and a column to the east. Our advisor, Prof. Jenifer Neils, recommended that it be placed "on the summit" of the Acropolis near the Quadriga and colossal statue of Athena Promachos.
